Massage Techniques

Julie Vazquez, NVLMT# 10291, created this video in the fall of 2021 to demonstrate techniques used in a massage.  Her goal was to help her clients better understand what to expect in a relaxation massage.

As per Nevada State Board of Massage Therapy regulations, all clients are draped (covered) during all body work.  The only time the full size sheet is moved, is to work on a clients back, arms or legs.  All equipment is sanitized before and after each massage.  All sheets, blankets and equipment are clean for each session.

What to know?

Massage oil, gel or lotion is used to reduce friction on your skin.  It is important to let your your massage therapist know if you are allergic to anything.  A variety of techniques can be used by your massage therapist to help your muscles relax.  In general, massage therapists manipulate muscles with their hands, forearms or elbows.  A variety of pressure can be used based on each clients preference.  Common “Swedish” massage techniques are the foundation for most relaxation massage.  You see some of these techniques in Julie’s video, include a gliding stroke (effleurage), and kneading motions (petrissage).

Music?

While Julie used a more upbeat track for her video, most music in a massage is designed to be very relaxing.  A nice distraction from the outside world!

If you have any questions about what to expect during a relaxation massage, please ask!  We welcome your questions and hope we can help your next massage be the mini-vacation you have been looking for!
